About Us

Nestled in the scenic Watchwell District of St. Elizabeth, Newell High School has been a cornerstone of educational excellence since its founding in 1970. For over five decades, our institution has remained committed to our founding motto 'Unite and Build,' fostering a community where academic achievement, character development, and personal growth flourish together. With a vibrant student body of 741 students and a dedicated faculty of 56 teachers, Newell High School offers a comprehensive secondary education experience. Under the leadership of Principal Audrey Ellington and Vice Principal Errol Bennett, our school maintains high academic standards while providing diverse opportunities for student engagement through numerous clubs, societies, and athletic programs. Our students proudly wear the school colors of burgundy and beige, with young men donning cream bush jackets bearing our distinctive school crest. We take particular pride in our athletic achievements, including our tackle football team's outstanding second-place finish in the Jamaica league in 2022. Beyond sports, our extensive array of clubs and societies - from Animation & Digital Arts to Environmental Science - ensures every student can find their passion and develop their unique talents. At Newell High School, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities and nation. Our commitment to excellence in education, combined with our strong emphasis on character building and community service, makes us a distinguished institution in St. Elizabeth parish.
